Summary:

This role serves as the health plan’s subject matter expert and advocate for the Individual Under-65 Qualified Health Plan (QHP) line of business. The position requires a detailed understanding of the Individual Under-65 products marketplace in the health plan’s operating area associated income eligibility guidelines.

The incumbent trains and supports both internal and external agents appointed with the health plan related to product options and enrollment options while ensuring they have access to sales and educational collateral to provide optimal recommendations. Additionally, the role affords the opportunity to work with health plan colleagues to enhance the Individual Under-65 QHP product portfolio, develop sales collateral, update broker programs and processes, while contributing to an effective go-to-market for open enrollment.


Essential Accountabilities:

  • Serves as subject matter expert and primary resource for both internal and external Agents selling the health plan’s Individual Under-65 QHP products. Educates on using the New York State of Health exchange to determine income-based product eligibility while demonstrating and in-depth knowledge of Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs).
  • Responsible for Agents’ thorough understanding of the Medicare product portfolio and all product benefits and relevance to meeting the needs of beneficiaries. Provides assistance to agents as they determine optimal product solutions for individuals based on income eligibility and unique coverage needs. Trains appointed Agents annually on product enhancements and updates as part of Open Enrollment go-to-market process.
  • Ensures optimal sales agent effectiveness through coaching, instruction, and monitoring of all sales and retention initiatives. Responsible for the development and implementation of processes to distribute Agent resources including sales collateral, applications, and educational materials. Develops enrollment and retention forecasts and monitors performance of same.
  • Ensures that all appointed Agents’ selling methods conform to Health Plan’s brand directed approach to consultative selling and always support the optimal matching of products to the needs of beneficiaries.
  • Works closely with internal partners supporting Individual Under-65 lines of business to ensure optimal levels of service to prospects and members and manage cross-sell growth opportunities within regions.
  • Works closely with Marketing team to develop, implement and track results of targeted campaigns and associated sales opportunities while providing market feedback on brochures and other educational collateral.
  • Provides relevant market feedback related to development of standard and supplemental benefits as part of annual product filings and long-term product roadmap process.
  • Ensures that all applicable governmental regulations are followed and enforced.

  • Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Performs other functions as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ten or more years of Insurance Sales experience or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with five or more years’ experience in sales.
  • Three or more years of experience working with the Individual Under-65 market.
  • LAH licensure in New York State required. Employees without a license are not eligible for any sales incentive awards or contests. Any sales made while not licensed are not eligible for incentive compensation.
  • Demonstrated sales, training, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including strong relationship building skills and ease with public speaking.
  • Above average problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to the diverse and unexpected situations normally encountered in marketing and service occupations required.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time.
  • Competency in Basic Microsoft office tools or their equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work prolonged periods sitting and/or standing at a workstation and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or trainings as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40lbs of materials.

Salary Range:

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s minimum qualifications, in additional to internal equity. The posted salary range reflects just one component of Excellus’s total rewards package. Other components of the total rewards package may include participation in group health and/or dental insurance, retirement plan, wellness program, paid time away from work, and paid holidays.

Min: 62,400.00 - Max: 115,800.00
